For Vancouverites, planning an event in Whistler involves a few more steps than one closer to home. Along with the drive up the Sea to Sky Highway, it’s also important to consider the venue’s access rules, mountain weather, and getting everything into place before guests arrive.

Start With the Venue Access
Before deciding between Pucket and Corn Hole, find out how and when the games can enter the venue.
Hotels, conference spaces, private properties and municipal facilities may all have different loading procedures.
The Resort Municipality of Whistler notes that early access generally isn’t available for its indoor rental spaces, so be sure to leave enough time at both ends of the booking.
Here’s a list of questions to ask the venue upon arrival:
Where should the delivery vehicle arrive?
Is there a loading zone?
Are there stairs or elevators between the entrance and event space?
What time can setup begin?
When does everything need to be removed?
Who will be available as the day-of contact?
Is there a covered or indoor backup location?
Sorting this out early keeps the setup calm and the loading-dock improvisation to a minimum.
Choose Games That Fit the Space
Whistler venues range from hotel ballrooms and private chalets to patios, lawns and public parks. The right game lineup depends as much on the space as it does on the guest count.
For indoor venues
Our indoor games are designed to fit in with the event without taking over the room.
Pucket needs approximately three feet by three feet and delivers quick, competitive rounds. Tower of Hanoi works in an area of about four feet by four feet and gives the quieter strategists something to puzzle over together.
For a larger room, Rebound creates an impressive focal point. It requires a level area of approximately seven feet by four feet.
Giant Tic Tac Toe and Giant Jenga are also easy for guests to recognize and join. Just remember to leave enough room around Giant Jenga for the tower to fall safely.
For lawns and outdoor spaces
An open lawn gives you room for games with longer playing areas.
Corn Hole works best with approximately 20 feet of space. Ladder Golf is an outdoor-only game, with the two ladders normally placed about 15 feet apart.
Bocce needs the most room. Plan for at least a 30-foot-by-30-foot grassy area.
Remember to place your outdoor games away from entrances, dining areas and busy walkways. Throwing lanes also need to point away from the crowd, no matter how confident everyone claims to be in their aim.
Think About How Guests Will Use the Games
The best lineup depends on the kind of Whistler event you’re planning.
Weddings
Games work particularly well during cocktail hour, while the wedding party is taking photos and guests are getting to know one another.
We recommend combining something familiar, such as Giant Jenga or Giant Tic Tac Toe, with a faster head-to-head game like Pucket. This allows guests to join for a round, watch from nearby or carry on with their conversation.
Corporate retreats
Whistler retreats often bring together coworkers who don’t interact much during the regular workday. Games make those introductions easier without turning the evening into another team-building exercise.
A mix of quick competitions and cooperative puzzles gives different personalities a way to participate. Rebound brings out the strategic side of the group, while Tower of Hanoi often becomes a team challenge whether you planned it that way or not.
Private chalet events
Space may be more limited at a private residence, so make sure to check the layout before choosing oversized games.
Compact options can create a relaxed game area without getting in the way of seating or food service. If the property has a patio or lawn, the game area can extend outside when the weather cooperates.
Community events
For festivals and larger public gatherings, choose games that are easy to understand and quick to reset between players. Spreading several games across the event site can also encourage guests to move through more of the space.
If the event is taking place in a municipal park or facility, confirm any booking, permit and insurance requirements directly with the venue.
Have a Mountain-Weather Plan
Weather can change quickly in Whistler. Even if the forecast says it’ll be sunny, it’s a good idea to have a backup plan for rain.
Wooden games need protection from wet conditions. Before event day, decide whether the setup can move into a ballroom, meeting room, tent or covered patio if necessary.
Time of day matters too. An outdoor game area that works beautifully in the afternoon may need additional lighting once the sun disappears behind the mountains.
When Should You Book?
Whistler events involve additional travel and coordination, so earlier is helpful, especially for popular wedding weekends, conference dates and multi-day events.
Once the date and venue are confirmed, start thinking about the game lineup. That gives you more choice and leaves enough time to coordinate access with the venue.
